WWE icon Triple H hit out at the critics of Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul before joking about the unique way the fight got sanctioned.
The King of Kings is full of support for former heavyweight world champion Tyson following the latter’s several cameos inside WWE.
Paul vs Tyson is set for July 20[/caption]‘Iron Mike’ is currently preparing for his return to the ring this summer, where he’ll fight a man 31 years his junior in Paul.
Tyson, who will be 58 years old come fight night, hasn’t fought since his exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr in November 2020.
The vast age difference between the two has led to criticism from boxers and influencers alike, but Triple H is a staunch supporter.
Speaking to Logan Paul, Jake’s older brother and WWE United States champion on his podcast Impaulsive, Triple H hailed ‘The Problem Child’.
He said: “When I first heard that deal and you know I saw the announcement, just like everybody else did, I was like, ‘he’s gonna fight Tyson?’
“And then just in my mind, I was like, ‘oh that’ll be a good pay-per-view, that’d be cool’.
“I was like, ‘they going to run a pay-per-view?’ And then when I realised… no it’s just on Netflix. Oh my, kid’s a genius.”
Eyebrows have been raised over the health of Tyson, who regularly smokes cannabis, and was seen using a walking stick months ago.
On the critics, WWE’s Head of Creative and Chief Content Officer added: “My hat’s off to both of them for taking the fight.
“I understand people’s concern for Mike and all that stuff – he’s a grown man, if he wants to take that challenge, and medically they check him out they say he’s okay, then let’s go.”
Since hanging up his gloves, Tyson has created a cannabis empire, where he is the proud owner of a 40-acre weed ranch in California.
‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’, who previously admitted he was high when he beat Andrew Golota in 2000, has since hinted he plans to stop smoking to return to peak physical condition to face Paul.
Podcast host Paul made a hilarious reference to Tyson’s reveal that he once smoked ‘Toad Venom’, which caused Triple H to joke about what led the medical examiners to clear the veteran boxer to fight.
The DX legend said: “He gets so high he just got all the people that were doing the testing really high and they just passed him.”
Paul is an active ten-fight (9-1) professional who has knocked out six of his opponents in the paid ranks.
Despite that, Triple H did stress how much of a threat Tyson still possesses, as he offered his own prediction for the fight.
“If the old Mike Tyson shows up for five minutes, like, how do you get past that? right, right?”, the Game noted.
“That’s, he doesn’t need to be there for the whole fight, just needs to be there for five minutes, five seconds.
“Yeah, I don’t know, I hear your strategy, and I see your strategy.
“I don’t know that I wouldn’t just run for two-three rounds and hope that he gets tired.”
